Annual Awards
Julius Boros Award - This trophy, a large silver bowl donated to the Junior Golf
Association of Broward Inc. by the late golfing great, Julius Boros, is awarded to
the Boys Championship Division boy with the lowest stroke average for the year. To
be eligible for this award, a player must play at least five 18-hole rounds (or half
of the total tournaments for the year if the division plays less than 10 complete
rounds) from the Blue Tees during the current year. If the golfer plays more than
five rounds, the average of the five lowest rounds is used. The trophy is retained
by the recipient for one year and a smaller replica is awarded as the permanent trophy
at the annual awards the following year.
Carol Mann Trophy - This trophy, a large silver cup donated to the Junior Golf Association
of Broward Inc. by LPGA professional Carol Mann, for whom the trophy is named, is
awarded to the Girls Championship Division girl with the lowest stroke average for
the year. To be eligible for this award, a player must play in at least five 18-hole
rounds (or half of the total tournaments for the year if the division plays less
than 10 complete rounds) from the Red Tees during the current year. If the golfer
plays more than five rounds, the average of the lowest five rounds is used. The trophy
is retained by the recipient for one year and a smaller replica is awarded as the
permanent trophy at the annual awards the following year.
Ron Kesterson Trophy - named for a former JGA member, is presented to the boy whose
golfing ability and dedication has improved the most during the current year. Consideration
is given for the number of flights a player moves, the scores at the beginning of
the year compared to the scores at the end of the year, and the tees from which the
scores were made. The trophy is retained by the recipient for one year and a smaller
replica is awarded as the permanent trophy at the annual awards the following year.
Founders Award - is presented to the girl whose golfing ability and dedication has
improved the most during the current year. Consideration is given for the number

trophy is retained by the recipient for one year and a smaller replica is awarded
as the permanent trophy at the annual awards the following year.
President’s Award - awarded by the JGA President to the boy or girl who exhibits
the spirit of the JGA.
Fran Pou Plaque - awarded to a boy or girl who has demonstrated an eagerness to assist
the parent volunteers and the Board of Directors in a manner which sets him or her
apart from the rest of the participants over the course of the tournaments.
Watson Trophy …presented to the adult volunteer who has performed some special task
above and beyond the responsibilities of a volunteer for the betterment of the JGA
program. The trophy is retained by the recipient for one year and a smaller replica
is awarded as the permanent trophy at the annual awards the following year.
Citizenship & Sportsmanship Trophy - awarded to the boy or girl of any age who is
considered to be the outstanding young person in the JGA program. A list of candidates
is complied with recommendations for character, attitude, leadership on and off the
course. Each nominee’s name is brought before the Board of Directors with the reasons
why he or she is being nominated. The Board will cast a vote by ballot, with the
candidate receiving the most votes as the winner. The trophy is retained by the recipient
for one year and a plaque is awarded as the permanent award at the annual awards
the following year.
Diamond Scholarship Award - a 1-year grant awarded to graduating senior players and
are determined solely on the academic grade point average of the individual requesting
a scholarship. Junior golfers desiring to be a candidate for a scholarship must be
a graduating senior from high school in the current year, submit his or her high
school report card, and scholarship request to the JGA scholarship chairperson. The
number and amount of the scholarships are determined by the Board of Directors. To
be eligible for a scholarship the individual must be an active member of the Junior
Golf Association of Broward County and participated in a minimum of 3 JGA tournaments
in each of their high school years.
Purdo Scholarship - awarded to graduating senior player with the highest grade point
average.
Lucy Forman Scholarship - awarded to graduating senior girl with the highest grade
point average.
McKinney Scholarship - a 4-year grant based on the above qualifications and financial
need.
JGA Hall of Fame - recognition of individuals who had a special influence on the
JGA. Inductees are voted on by the Board of Directors.

Weekly Awards
Trophies are awarded to 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place finishers in each division.
