Important Notices

The JGA program is conducted during the months where thunder and lightning storms develop quickly and approach fast.

Please review the Weather Warning posted on this web site. The most important thing to remember is SAFETY. The Rules of Golf, Rule 6.8, allows a player to discontinue play on their own if he/she feels threatened by lightning. You do not have to wait for the horn. Note: a player may not discontinue play because of bad weather. i.e. Rain.

The Junior Golf Association of Broward County and the Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation  have jointly subscribed to a weather service, which  notifies us by e-mail of an approaching storm that contains lightning when it comes within 10 miles of the course. They will also send an "ALL CLEAR" e-mail once the lightning has passed outside 10 miles and it is considered safe to resume play.

The JGA and GCJGF utilize a laptop computer with mobile technology to connect to the Internet while at the various courses. We then have the ability to monitor a map showing lightning strikes and track storms as they enter and depart the area.

Both organizations also use hand-held lightning detectors.

These systems are not fail-safe! However, we feel it will give us an added warning and a better chance to clear the courses of members and their families.
